Often referred to as Euphyllia Hammer Coral or Anchor coral, its common names are derived from the hammer like and anchor-shaped tentacles. The tentacles on Hammer Coral colonies can range anywhere from tan or golden yellow to more rare colonies of bright green.
Euphyllia ancora is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral that gets branches like a Torch coral (E. glabrescens). They are found all throughout the Pacific reefs and come in a variety of colors and growth forms. Hammer corals sometimes grow in a wall formation while other hammers grow in a branching formation. Either variety makes an excellent show piece coral for a reef aquarium however the branching varieties tend to grow more quickly.
Blue tip hammer corals are very hardy and fast growing. With proper water conditions in the aquarium, it will thrive.
Branching blue tip hammer coral will require moderate lighting and moderate water movement within the aquarium. There should always be plenty of space between the Hammer Coral and other corals or inverts as it can be aggressive with its tentacles. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
