The Majestic Angelfish also known as the Blue Girdled Angelfish is from the Pomacanthus family of Angelfish, that displays a impressive awe-inspiring color patterns. Known to be more mellow than other Angelfish species, especially when introduced to an established aquarium. Caves, hiding places and overhangs are a must with Majestic Angels.
Majestic Angelfish are an elegant and brightly colored species commonly observed along the coral reefs throughout the tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific. It has a yellow color with darker blue markings on the body and a blue band on the head which included the eyes. There also will be a light blue edging that will separate the dark blue and orange coloring on most of this fish’s body. The fins are also blue with a lighter blue to orange like boarder around the edges.
The Majestic Angelfish is not a good reef dweller, being prone to nip at stony and soft corals (sessile invertebrates) and clam mantles. It generally will not harm small-polyped stony corals and somewhat noxious soft corals. Like most Angelfish, the Majestic Angelfish is difficult to care for and are only recommended for experienced hobbyists due to their preference for pristine water quality and stable chemistry.
The Majestic Angel is a smaller member of “larger” angels. Growing only to around 10 inches it’s also a slow grower, taking many years to reach max size. A 125-gallon tank is suitable, but bigger is better. A system should have a large supply of mature live rock with algae and sponge growth for grazing throughout the day.
Feed a varied diet consisting of large chunks of meaty foods. These foods include krill, raw table shrimp, squid, clam and mussel. It is also a good idea to occasionally supplement with some type of herbivore diet containing spirulina and supplement with a sponge fortified formula specifically for Angelfish.
