Alveopora coral is a perfect beginner (LPS) coral and its colorful tentacles going with the flow add a very nice touch of movement to your reef tank. It is often green; when displayed under actinic lighting, it will glow.

Alveopora coral care is not nearly as painful as one might think when compared to their similar-looking cousin, goniopora. Alveopora is a lot more forgiving coral in aquarium environments and is a fantastic alternative that brings some of the same shape and movement that people find so attractive.

Alveopora has also been called flowerpot coral, Sunflower or Ball Coral. The flower references are due to its appearance when all of its polyps are open and often look like a bouquet of flowers.

Also, Clownfish are in direct association with the Alveopora Coral and will often play in its polyps if no anemone can be found in the reef aquarium.

There is a way to tell the difference when it comes to both lps corals. Alveopora generally has 12 while goniopora will usually have 24 tentacles on each polyp.

And despite the superficial resemblance to Goniopora, Alveopora has been transferred to the Acroporiidae family recently and is related to Staghorn, Acropora, Isopora, Montipora, and Astreopora.

In the wild the alveopora corals can be found around the warmer waters of the Indo-Pacfic region. Such as around the Solomon Islands and the top end of the Australian coast line (particularly around the Great Barrier Reef).

The Alveopora Coral requires low to moderate lighting combined with low water movement. For continued good health, it will also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
